Meta AI launches in six countries including Brazil and UK

Meta is bringing its AI chatbot Meta AI to six countries today, including Brazil, the U.K., the Philippines, Bolivia, Guatemala, and Paraguay, Mark Zuckerberg said today in an announcement on his WhatsApp channel.

The company said that apart from these countries, the company plans to release Meta AI in more countries in a gradual rollout, including the Middle East. After this rollout, Meta AI will be available in 43 countries and more than a dozen languages.

The upcoming roll-out includes regions such as Algeria, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Thailand, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, and Yemen. Meta AI will also start supporting Arabic, Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese languages by the end of this release cycle.

The AI assistant is available on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger apps, and on the Meta.ai website.

During last month’s Meta Connect event, Zuckerberg mentioned that Meta AI now has “nearly” 500 million users across the world. He added that the chatbot is on track to become the most used assistant in the world by the end of the year.

Meta’s CFO, Susan Li, said during the Q2 2024 call that India is Meta AI’s biggest market, largely due to WhatsApp, which has more than 500 million users in the country.

Last month, the company added features like new celebrity voices and lip-synced translations to Meta AI. The company also expanded its generative AI-powered “Imagine” feature across Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger to create photos through natural language prompts. Plus, Meta AI now has an understanding of your photos and can give you answers about them and even edit them.
